Estates Theatre (Prague Summer Nights), Prague (CZ) stages Mozart's Die Zauberflöte: 2 performances between 2026-07-09 and 2026-07-10.
No other opera house on earth can say this: Mozart himself stood at its podium, and the building survives essentially as he knew it. Count Franz Anton von Nostitz-Rieneck commissioned the neoclassical theatre from Anton Haffenecker, and it opened in 1783 bearing the Latin motto Patriae et Musis, to the homeland and the muses. Four years later, on 29 October 1787, Mozart conducted the world premiere of Don Giovanni here; in 1791 La clemenza di Tito also had its first performance in the same hall.
The theatre wrote Czech history too. In 1834 the song Kde domov můj, now the national anthem, was first heard here in a comedy by Tyl, whose name the house bore during the communist decades. Restored between 1983 and 1991 and run today by the National Theatre, it doubled as the opera house in Miloš Forman's film Amadeus. Each summer the Prague Summer Nights festival stages Die Zauberflöte on the very boards Mozart trod.
