GöteborgsOperan, Gothenburg (SE) stages Mozart's Die Zauberflöte: 6 performances between 2026-09-13 and 2027-01-21.
Gothenburg talked about a proper opera house for most of the twentieth century, and when the city finally acted it moved fast. Ground was broken in 1991 on the harbourfront at Lilla Bommen, and the finished building opened on 1 October 1994. Architect Jan Izikowitz took his forms from the working port around it, so the silhouette suggests ship hulls, sails and cranes, while glass foyers look out over the Göta älv. Inside, a classically shaped auditorium seats 1,276 and finally united a company previously scattered across six addresses in the city.
Since then GöteborgsOperan has become western Sweden's stage for opera, dance and musicals, known for singing much of its repertoire in Swedish. The Magic Flute holds a special place here. Rikard Bergqvist's staging from 2009 became a public favourite, and in the 2025-26 season the house presents James Bonas's family production, Trollflöjten, sung in Swedish and blending live performance with animation.
