Autumn Raises the Curtain

August is the hinge of the Zauberflöte year. Our map tracks 446 upcoming performances in 22 countries, and this month the opera moves from the festival stages back into the houses.
The summer gets its farewell first. Tonight the Roman theatre of Sanxay plays the opera under the open sky, with one more night to follow. Montevideo spends its southern winter with a Flauta mágica at the Teatro Solís from 14 August. Santa Fe gives its last performance of the season on 28 August, London's Grimeborn fringe fits the whole opera into the Arcola Theatre from the 25th, and on 26 August the Estates Theatre in Prague, the house where Mozart himself conducted, plays its own production.
Then the houses take over. The Semperoper Dresden reopens its staging on 30 August, the Deutsche Oper Berlin follows on 2 September, and the Volksoper Wien starts a 21-date run on the 8th. Ten houses open their runs in September alone, from Montreal to Zürich. October brings a new production at Theater Bonn, Munich's Bayerische Staatsoper returns on 20 November, and December belongs to the winter runs: Gothenburg from the 3rd, the Met from the 11th, the Wiener Staatsoper from the 12th, and the Royal Opera House from the 13th, playing deep into February.
One date left the map this week. A Paris premiere announced by our sources for September does not exist in the Opéra de Paris season, so we removed it: a wrong date is worse than no date. Istanbul's November run is announced but not yet on sale, and Zagreb keeps the opera in its repertory without dates. Both stay on our watch list, and the map will have them the day they are real.
