Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo)

No other stage on earth can say this: Mozart stood here, in this room, and conducted. Count Nostitz opened his neoclassical theatre in 1783, and four years later Prague heard the world premiere of Don Giovanni with the composer himself in the pit. In September 1791, weeks before Die Zauberflöte opened in Vienna, he was back for the premiere of La clemenza di Tito. The pale green house on Ovocný trh has survived wars, empires and renovations almost unchanged, which is why Miloš Forman shot the opera scenes of Amadeus here.

Today the Estates Theatre belongs to the Czech National Theatre, and Mozart never really left the repertoire. The current Kouzelná flétna, staged by Vladimír Morávek, plays through the season in the same hall where the eighteenth century is not a costume but simply the walls.
