July belongs to the festivals. The Magic Flute plays under the open sky in the archbishop's courtyard at Aix-en-Provence, in Santa Fe's desert amphitheatre, on Rothenburg's market square and in English country gardens, while Prague Summer Nights stages it in the Estates Theatre, where Mozart himself once conducted. In Stuttgart and Mannheim the regular season takes its bow before the summer break.
