The birdcatcher of the 1937 Berlin set: light, sly and word-perfect. Between opera evenings he more or less invented the modern song recital on record, setting down Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise before the war.
After the war he became one of the great teachers, with long stays in Japan, where our 1952 photograph was taken and where his recordings are collected with particular devotion. Ask any baritone about singing German clearly and kindly at the same time, and sooner or later the conversation arrives at Hüsch.
